Scape Sunscreen Review

I've been lucky enough to be using Scape sunscreen for around a month now and I think we've got a winner on our hands (skin). This stuff is seriously awesome.

Scape's website states it's:

  • 5X more waterproof than any other product on the market
  • Will not rub off and go into your eyes
  • Breathable – allows the skin to breathe and keep body temperature down and doesn’t clog pores
  • Has the highest UVA protection on the market
  • Loaded with vitamin E and antioxidants to protect and nourish the skin

I used to be a lifeguard and grew up on summer swim teams, baking myself in the sun way too often.  I finally began to take things seriously when I saw how the surfers in California applied sunscreen like crazy and made it look cool.  Listen, you only have so much damage your skin can take and then... it's cancer city.  My own grandfather died of skin cancer when a skin lesion metastasized in his brain and killed him rather quickly.  The great news is that if you apply sunscreen liberally, you can greatly reduce the amount of sun damage.  I rarely get burned these days by applying lots of sunscreen and I have to admit it's totally worth it.

I used Scape on five different 3+ hour long bike rides in crushing Texas heat.  If anything would put the "sweatproof" claim of a product to a test, it would be one of these rides.  Scape is made specifically for endurance athletes and to hold up to tons of time sweating in the sun.  Not only that, it's specifically formulated to let the skin breathe, keeping you cooler than most other sunscreens.

It goes on nicely, spreads easily, and smells fine.  No issues with it being too thick or strangely toxic smelling.  I recall putting on a competitor's product once and watched it eat away the numbers on my watch.  We don't need stuff like that on our skin!

The results out in the field were nice.  Scape never washed off and didn't burn the eyes.  The craziest thing was this - even after three hours of pouring sweat, it STILL wouldn't come off until I took a shower and scrubbed down with soap.  Now that's staying power!

I take sunscreen and sun protection very seriously.  I also have learned over the years that not all sunscreens are created equally.  Make sure you take care and pick one that is made for the job.

Find out more about Scape here.  The site also lists out the science behind the waterproofing and sun protection.  Pretty cool stuff!
