Upcoming Test - Carbo-Pro vs. Perpetuem

I went all crazy on the ultra-webs yesterday and ordered Carbo-Pro to start testing it out as a training/racing fuel.  It's pretty much maltodextrin and nothing else, which has a lot of fans.  I have a lot of mediocre days mixed in with my great days, so trying different fuels is always a smart bet to see if that's the issue.

I've been using Perpetuem for a while.  It has fat and other stuff in it, which gives a lot of people mixed results.  I'm hoping to see more sustained power on long bike rides; that's where I get lethargic.

Rocky Raccoon 100 Trail Run Ultramarathon Video

I'm fully recovered from this brutal race and the bronchitis that ensued, so it's time to post some videos!  This is the compilation from running the Rocky Raccoon 100 miler.  A podcast with a proper race report is coming shortly.  With a 40% DNF rate, this is one of the hardest things I've ever done.

I shut off my camera during the night to save the batteries for the end.  Running 50 miles at night in the woods with a flashlight was CRAZY, especially at near-freezing temperatures.  I can't wait to do this again.

Scott Jurek, Tony Krupicka and other famous racers were there and hugely inspirational.  Results here.

Quick Update (I Survived!)

Hey, rockstars!  The blog has been a little quiet lately because I caught bronchitis right after the Rocky Raccoon 100.  It felt like I had been hit by a truck and had a 102 degree fever with a hacking cough.  I was still smiling, though. :)

Anyway, I'm feeling a bit better and will get everybody a proper race report soon.  Not only that, but I'm already working on a video and podcast all about the race!

Here is a link to the results, showing me at 26:07 and in the top 3rd if you count the whopping 40% DNF rate.  This was one tough event.

I do have one impression from RR100 that I can go ahead and share now -- It definitely changes you as an individual.  When you have run 100 miles, you realize that there are no excuses left.  Anything you aren't getting done is within your abilities to make happen.  And I also believe that anybody can run 100 miles.  It was 99% willpower and timing, not fitness.

I'll leave you with that and will return with some cool audio and vids shortly.

Training in perfect weather in San Diego.

Click Here to Listen to the Show!

It was an amazing camp!  We had a wonderful time and everybody left buzzing with energy and excitement about the upcoming season, coaches included.

Camp focused on training fundamentals, form, core strength, and nutrition by some amazing coaches.  We had Pro triathlete and core strength coach Jessi Stensland, Ultraman Rich Roll, Pro triathlete John Hirsch, and nutrition expert Christine Lynch as staff.  We were even gifted with a day of top-notch running form instruction by the incredible Coach Adam!

We trained, worked on form, ate, worked on core strength, and so much more.  The best part is the unfettered access to pros to ask all your training questions.

Athletes working on form drills with pro coaches.

Video reviews of each athlete's running form.

We will be opening early registration for next year very soon, so get ready to register!

The podcast contains audio from Camp, a few excerpts from Zen talks on Zencast, and a great intro/outro song by Sonic Joy called "Om Nama Shivaya".  It is an absolutely stellar compilation, so listen to it as soon as you can!
